   SAFETY

MAKE SURE YOUR FAMILY KNOWS THESE SAFETY RULES:

If you see a power line on the ground, STAY AWAY. An energized power line can kill on contact. Call TEPA to report the problem and keep others away, too.

Please choose a location other than a power pole for signs. Signs on poles are extremely hazardous for lineman.

Prevent children from climbing trees that have a power line passing among their branches.

Know where power lines cross your property, and be aware of them when raising tall objects such as antennas and ladders, or using farm equipment. Contact with a line can be deadly.

If you have underground service, call TEPA before digging to avoid contact.

Check all extension cords to be sure they are not worn or frayed. Never place cords under carpet or drape over pipes or other metal objects.

Be sure tools and appliances are properly grounded. Use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) whenever in damp locations or outside.

If you have small children, childproof your home against electrical hazards by installing plastic caps over your outlets.

Protect your computer and highly sensitive electronic equipment by installing protective devices.

Never attempt to climb a power pole or enter a restricted substation area.

Never fire a gun at a security light, a power line, insulator or a transformer.

Always turn Christmas lights off while you are away or going to bed.

Always look for the Underwriters Laboratories seal of approval and make sure it applies to the entire appliance and not just the cord.
